The important point of the above graphic is that Attentive Listening is an essential skill, needed to unlock the door of language mastery. The success of social interactions, the productive outcome of discourse and dialogue, the relevance of academic and workplace exchange, all depend on attentively listening to surrounding cues.

Attentive Listening is a fundamental element of all three mastery packets in this course: Listening for meaning is key to vocabulary comprehension; listening to phonological sounds is vital to learning to reproduce speech that is comprehensible; and listening to understand, signals to others a pragmatic willingness to engage in an exchange of ideas.

Your strategy for achieving successful English language acquisition should involve Attentive Listening and Pragmatic Replication of the concepts, words, and sounds that you encounter in your studies.

Also, along with being study resources that are referred to in the various lesson modules, the three Mastery Packets of this course are designed to facilitate self-directed interest in 1.) understanding the finer points of formal or academic language structure, and 2.) the development of conversational competence.
